Ice Candles

 Yesterday we made Ice Candles.

My favourite part was opening the ice candle because I had know idea that a lot of water was going to pour out of the sides .

All you need to make this is

Old candle wax

An empty milk carton ( washed out )

Oil

ice

Long candle

Here are the steps to make an Ice candle.

1. Cut open a milk carton

2. Rub oil all over the inside of the carton

3. Put the long candle in the middle

4. Fill it with ice

5. Melt the candle wax

6. Pour the candle wax into the carton

7. Wait 24 hours for it to harden

8. When its dry rip the carton off

9. Make sure all the water is out

10. Enjoy!

I found it really hard to rip the carton of because we didn't rub the oil all over the sides properly.

Here are some Photos.

Art Coloring Book

Today for Cybersmart we use a tool called Art Colouring Book .

The art work I recoloured was by Elaine de Kooning.

She was born on the 12 March 1918. And died on the 1 February 1989.

She was influenced by her husband Willem de Kooning.

The first thing I had to do was watch 3 videos then go onto Art colouring book and pick a famous art work to recolour.

I enjoyed recoloring it in my own way.

I found it tricky to get all of the small details.

My learning object shows that I can change things creatively.

Here is my art work.

Here is the original art work.

Rat Island

WALT- To infer.

Today I was  doing my hypotheses about a book called Rat Island.

I enjoyed telling you my hypothesis about the book.

I found it challenging to describe my thoughts on how the book might go.

My learning object shows that I can think about a story before I read it.

This is what my was.

look at the cover design and illustration and read the title and blurb of the story. What appeals to you? What does not appeal to you? Do they make you want to read the story? Why or why not? Write your thoughts in the boxes below.

Blurb

I think that Tam is going to be loyal to his crew and take risk and face a captin by having a sword fight.

Cover

The cover shows a pirate. I think that the pirate comes to the island infested with mutant rats.

Title

I think that it's called rat island because there are just rats  and they are evil but they look after the island from people and animals.

I think that the story was set in 1936.

Next time I would add a background.

Camp Goals

Last week we went on camp.

Today we finished updating our camp goals.

I enjoyed telling you what I have achieved in camp.

I found it challenging to go  high for the high ropes.

My learning object shows that I can update my blog.

Parihaka Feather

This week we have been learing about Parihaka.

Today my buddy and I finished making our albatross feathers.

I enjoyed adding the detail.

I found it challenging to find some of the information cards.

My learning object shows that  I can learn more about my culture.

The 5th of November 1881 is the day the soldiers invaded Parihaka.

Parihaka is located between Mount Taranaki and the Tasman Sea in the North Island of New Zealand.

Here are the feathers.
